Somewhere in the Annapurna region away from the regular trails and crowds lies the Khopra ridge. Across the ridge from the more famous Poon Hill trek, this route is offbeat and a jewel waiting to be discovered. Beneath the shadow of the Dhaulagiri Massif, this is a trek developed by the local community hence the name. You will be staying in lodges run by the local community initiated by Mahabir Pun winner of the Magsaysay award Asia’s equivalent to the Nobel Prize. The flora and fauna start with lush green semitropical forests in the lowlands and end with alpine pastures and pine forests in the upper reaches. The people of the lower reaches are mostly a mix of Nepal’s myriad ethnicities while the upper reaches are mostly inhabited by Magars one of the largest ethnic groups. We reach a maximum altitude of 3500 mts with stunning views of Dhaulagiri the seventh highest mountain in the world at 8167mts.
