This is the closest you could get to the mountains from Kathmandu. Directly to the north of Kathmandu bordering the Tibetan plateau is the Langtang Valley. Famed for its fast-flowing rivers, green meadows, yak cheese, nomadic horsemen and yak herders Langtang is like no other trek in Nepal. The upper reaches of the valley have glaciers and beautiful Himalayan peaks overlooking the Tibetan plateau. The people are closely related to the Tibetans and follow Buddhism as their main religion. The landscape like in other mountain areas of Nepal is dotted with monasteries and chrotens. Most of the trek is through a glaciated valley (Langtang Valley) which predates the ice age. This 10-day trek is one of Nepal’s best-kept secrets and will leave a visitor mesmerized by its beauty and cultural grandeur.
